Need an easy after school snack that all kids will love? The traditional version is celery, peanut butter, and raisins assembled to look like ants on a log. There are no limits to the variations that you can create. If your child has nut allergies or doesn’t like peanut butter, try a vegetable spread or cream cheese. You can also make other kinds of bugs by using other dried fruits such as cranberries, cherries, nuts, or anything your child can think of. Have fun with the snacks and let your child name them. It’ll make having a healthy snack enjoyable and fun for kids.
School is right around the corner and we’re here to help with a quick checklist of things to do before school starts.
Review School Information. Double check all material you receive to make sure that you are up to date on new information, have everything your child needs, fill out paperwork early, and know of all opportunities available to your children.
Good Health. Make sure your child is up to do date on all immunizations, doctor’s visits, vision checkups, and dental checkups. Now is also a good time to check the school calendar and schedule any planned future visits on days off.
Make a Calendar. Now is a great time to start filling out your family calendar. It’ll help everyone in your family know what’s going on when and you can have an early notice on scheduling conflicts.
Buy School Supplies. Get the checklist from your school and start shopping early. This’ll not only help you get everything you need but also allow you to watch for any sales.
Reestablish Routines. Start transitioning meal times, bed times, and other routines so everyone has time to adjust before school starts.
Visit school with your child. This is always a good idea and sometimes a requirement especially if your child is young or if its a new school.
Spend time together as family. Before the school year starts take a little time to spend time together as a family whether it’s meal time or a special activity. Get to know what everyone is looking forward to and address any concerns before school starts.
